The MAD Help Desk is closed. All MAD facilities (computer labs, workshop, photo studio, sound studio, darkroom, and film development room) are closed until further notice. You can access a lab computer remotely.

MAD darkroom

Film photography equipment.

The MAD darkroom is fully-equipped to produce high-quality photographic prints from your negative film. If you don't have film, you can make photograms! MAD also has a film development room for developing your black and white film. If you don't want to make prints from your film, there are film scanners available. Visit MAD Help Desk to book out the film holders for these scanners.

There are no costs to use these facilities and the chemicals, but you need to bring your own photographic paper. You must be a University of Waterloo student, staff, or faculty member. If you are unfamiliar with how to develop your film or prints, we can provide training or join the darkroom workshop by the University of Waterloo's Photography Club.

You must complete the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) 2015 training before using these facilities. If you have completed WHMIS training prior to 2015 or did not complete the training through LEARN, you will have to complete the training again. Learn how to self-enrol in WHMIS 2015:

If you have completed your WHMIS 2015 training, please send your proof of completion (in PDF format) on LEARN to See the image on the right for an example:
