informational poster about event (info provided in webpage)

Please join us for a Lunch & Learn on Monday, November 13, for a talk by Trevor Swerdfager, Environment lecturer and Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Delivery and Results at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Ottawa.

The lecture is titled: Conservation’s new map: Observations on the evolution of fish, forests and wildlife management in Canada and a rationale for its transformation.

This talk will outline three main “layers” on the map of conservation in Canada; the subsistence layer, the utilitarian layer and the intrinsic value layer, trace the evolution of the program paradigms arising from these layers, identify several common foundational principles or premises for these programs and argue that they are no longer valid. It will argue that we need to transform resource management in many ways and offer several suggestions regarding the nature of this transformation and how it could be brought about.

Please note that the lunch and lecture will in different (but nearby) locations.

Free lunch will be provided after the lecture!
