Interested in learning about the polar regions, sustainable development and the Earth Summit?
'Speaking Up for the Polar Regions' is a talk that draws much needed attention to the emerging challenge of sustainable development in the Polar Regions. The Polar Regions are crucial to global sustainable development, but have received very little attention in the lead-up to the Rio+20 Conference, also known as the Earth Summit.
Speaking at this event is Andrew Wong, the Founder and Executive Director of the Students on Ice Alumni Delegation (www.soidelegation.com), an international youth delegation that will be attending the Rio+20 Earth Summit. This delegation is comprised of youth under 24 who have visited the Polar Regions and are committed to their protection.
Andrew will speak about the importance of the Polar Regions in the context of sustainable development, threats facing these regions, and opportunities to promote sustainable development of the poles. He will speak from personal experience having experienced the Arctic firsthand in 2010.
This event aims to raise awareness about the unique sustainable development challenges facing the Polar Regions and to inspire youth and civil society to commit to their protection. Attendees will even be able to take concrete action during the event!
