Julian Agyeman

In his talk, Julian will show how young people in the Roxbury neighbourhood in Boston formed a coalition called ‘Clean Buses for Boston’ as a response to increased asthma levels in the area. He will look at global climate justice activism, highlighting especially, the role of young girls and women and finally, he will look at food justice: who grows Canada’s food, and why this matters.

Julian Agyeman Ph.D. FRSA FRGS is a Professor of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning, and Fletcher Professor of Rhetoric and Debate at Tufts University in Greater Boston, USA. He is the originator of the concept of ‘Just Sustainabilities,’ which explores the intersecting goals of social justice and environmental sustainability, defined as ‘the need to ensure a better quality of life for all, now and into the future, in a just and equitable manner, whilst living within the limits of supporting ecosystems.’
