The World’s Challenge Challenge at the University of Waterloo is a competition where teams of two to four diverse students picked one or more of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (also known as the Global Goals) and propose a solution. Teams will make a 5-7 minute presentation on their proposed solution to a panel of judges that will then be followed by a Q&A session.
Food and beverages will be provided.
The winning team of this competition will win $3,000 and will move on to compete against other schools at the World’s Challenge Challenge Global Finals from June 8-12, 2020 held at Western University in London, Ontario. The winning team of the Global Finals will win $30,000, the second place team will win $15,000, and the 3rd place team will win $7,500. More information about the origins of the event can be found here and the scoring rubric can be found here.
The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
