Globe and Mail report highlights Environment's role bridging energy industry and First Nations

Globe and Mail global energy reporter Shawn McCarthy attended the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development's fall symposium Towards Sustainable Partnerships: Canada’s Aboriginal Communities and the Resources Sector.

His report echoes the main take away from the event, that education is the key to progressive relationships between the Canadian resource sector and aboriginal Canadians.

Towards sustainable partnerships: Canada’s Aboriginal communities and the resources sector fall symposium

The School of Environment Enterprise and Development hosted its annual fall profile event in Toronto. The symposium, “Towards Sustainable Partnerships: Canada’s Aboriginal Communities and the Resources Sector,” brought together leaders from Canada’s resource economy, aboriginal groups, former Prime Minister Paul Martin and Phil Fontaine, President of Ishkonigan, former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.

A delegation of University of Waterloo students are contributing this week to negotiating global climate change agreements at the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP19) in Poland.
