Ian Rowlands appointed as Associate Director of WISE

The Faculty of Environment is pleased to announce that Professor Ian Rowlands, Department of Environment and Resource Studies, has accepted the position of Associate Director, Research, Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE) for a one-year term effective January  1, 2014.

This position further enhances the University's commitment to be a leader in energy research. WISE comprises members from the Faculties of Environment, Engineering, Science, Math and Arts who are involved ill a broad range of research activities that intersect energy policy , environment and technology innovation.

Friday January 24th kicked off the first of Faculty of Environment’s lecture series. The free two-part lecture series was presented by the faculty’s newest researchers: Knowledge Integration Associate Professor, Dr. Vanessa Schweizer, and Geography and Environmental Management Research Chair, Chris Fletcher.

As the debate continues in several cities surrounding the potential impact of light rail transit (LRT), a researcher from the University of Waterloo is harnessing the power of big data to help gather new insights into how transit systems might transform urban redevelopment and affect the housing market.
