On February 8, the Intact Centre for Climate Adaptation Head Dr. Blair Feltmate was a witness to the Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources discussion of a study on the effects of transitioning to a low carbon economy. The study looks at five key sectors responsible for 80 per cent of our emissions: electricity, oil and gas, transportation, buildings and trade-exposed industries, and how they can contribute to meeting Canada's emission goals.
The Intact Centre on Climate Adaption's (ICCA) Dana Decent was recently awarded "Leader of the Year" by Ontario Sustainable Energy Awards (OSEA). As part of OSEA's 8th Annual Power for Prosperity Awards Gala on February 8, Decent received her award for her work with ICCA directing operational functions and leading research to support the centre’s programs.
School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability professor Robert Gibson spoke to the Financial Post about the environmental assessment legislation from the government, Bill C-69, which would change the way many projects such as pipelines, hydro dams and mines are reviewed. The proposed changes are still being assessed but several academics have found aspects of the bill left them scratching their heads.
