As we kick off National Volunteer Week 2020 we’re honoured to thank all of the incredible alumni, students, friends and colleagues who have given the gift of their time and skills to help support the Faculty of Environment in its 50-plus year history.
In 2019 alone, more than 150 volunteers gave nearly 1000 hours of time to the faculty to support student success. Alumni Class Champions led class giving campaigns to raise money for student scholarships, others provided career advice to students at our Leadership Series events, alumni, students, and faculty members led activities at Alumni Weekend, and dozens more gave in-class presentations, sat on panel talks, did social media takeovers and participated in alumni chapters and various committees. Through mobilizing community action, we’re building a better world together.
Volunteers with the faculty represent all of the wonderfully diverse people who make up our community. Without them, Environment could not achieve our mission to create sustainable solutions needed to address the complex challenges facing our world and train our next generation of leaders.
Here is what one student said after meeting one of our alumni volunteers at a networking event.
“My favourite part of the experience was speaking to highly motivated, intelligent individuals who started out exactly where I am today. This gave me hope and motivation to keep pursuing my dreams.”
Even as we practice social distancing, the hope and motivation volunteers provide remind us of the impact we can make on our communities when combining our strengths to serve the greater good.
