On Thursday January 10, the University of Waterloo’s Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) hosted the final showcase for the GRADflix initiative. The Faculty of Environment represented five of the fifteen finalists, the largest number of any faculty on campus.
GRADflix participants were required to submit a 60 second video describing their research. Over 80 videos were submitted, and the entries were judged on communication, creativity and visual impact, and technical quality.
At the final showcase, hosted in the Board and Senate room in Needles Hall, audience members enjoyed popcorn and drinks while viewing the finalists’ submissions. The judges, made up of communication and writing professionals across campus, had the hard task of picking the best videos from a stellar selection of options.
Our very own Fraser King (GEM) took 1st place for his video, “CloudStat and Arctic Snow” and Amanda Yan Yan Lim (SERS) placed 4th with her video, “Worms and Waste”. Congratulations to them, as well as Jaydeep Mistry (GEM), Stephanie Higgins (GEM) and Natalie Knowles (GEM) for making it to the finals.
