Professor Sarah Burch, Geography and Environmental Management, has been awarded a new Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Sustainability Governance and Innovation for $500,000 over five years.
Professor Burch will examine how cities address climate change and transition toward resilient, low-carbon development while investigating new ways of governing sustainability challenges and studying entrepreneurs as sources of innovation. Professor Burch is the North American coordinator of the Earth System Governance Project, and is one of the core faculty members teaching in the University of Waterloo’s Master of Climate Change program.
Burch was one of five University of Waterloo faculty members to receive new or renewal CRCs in an announcement made February 9th. The researchers will receive a combined total of $5.2 million.
