a
dynamic
planning
practitioner
and
educator
for
a
three-year
definite-term
appointment
as
a
lecturer
in
the
School
of
Planning,
Faculty
of
Environment,
with
the
possibility
of
renewal
as
a
Continuing
Lecturer.
Applicants
must
demonstrate
excellence,
or
the
clear
promise
of
excellence
in
teaching
combined
with
extensive
knowledge
of,
and
practice
experience
in,
urban
design
and
planning
practice.
The
candidate
must
have
a
Master’s
degree
and/or
PhD
and
will
be
expected
to
teach
up
to
6
courses
annually,
primarily
at
the
undergraduate
level.
The ideal candidate has specific expertise and experience in urban design, and is also comfortable teaching in other areas of planning practice. Possible course subject areas include urban design fundamentals, advanced urban design studios, planning professional practice, project management, and professional communications. There is also an opportunity for service commitments with an emphasis on those that maintain vibrant connections with professional communities in planning and urban design. Registered Professional Planner (RPP) accreditation, or willingness to pursue accreditation, and membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) are considered assets, as are a background and ability to teach urban design and planning practice with an equity and social justice lens.
The School of Planning, housed in the Faculty of Environment, is at the forefront of planning research and teaching, characterized by a comprehensive, applied, critical, and inter-disciplinary approach to planning with vibrant ties to the profession. Home to over 400 undergraduate students, 80 graduate students and 20 faculty members, the School offers undergraduate and Master’s degrees accredited by the Professional Standards Board (PSB) for the profession, as well as an on-line professional Master’s degree and a doctoral program.

This is a teaching position with a start date of July 1, 2021 or soon thereafter. Salary will be commensurate with experience (the range is $75,000 - $115,000 per year).
