The University of Waterloo has been recognized by the Kitchener Times as a place for innovation in aviation training and research. The Faculty of Environment's Department of Geography and Environmental Management and the Faculty of Science offer degree programs in Geography and Aviation and in Science and Aviation for students who simultaneously train for their commercial pilot's license at the Waterloo-Wellington Flight Centre. Research into aviation human factors and sustainable aviation is led by Professor Suzanne Kearns who explores human limitations and how they contribute to aviation accidents and incidents. This vibrant program is one of a very few that combine academic and aviation training.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
