Why did you choose to study in the Faculty of Environment at Waterloo?

I chose the Faculty of Environment here at Waterloo because of the size of the faculty. It is one of the smallest faculties and I think this is the best way to get to know everyone including the professors, and vice versa. Waterloo is one of the few universities to also have a faculty specifically dedicated to the environment and I think this is a huge step in conservation and raising awareness for the environment. The thing that interests me about the planning program here at Waterloo is that it is a professional program taught by registered professional planners and it offers a co-op opportunity to students. The undergraduate Planning program is one of two in Ontario that is recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners.

Why did you choose to study in the Faculty of Environment at Waterloo?

I chose Environment at Waterloo because it had co-op for my program. What interested me most about my program was the wholistic approach to designing a building/street/city.

Why did you choose to study in the Faculty of Environment at Waterloo?

I love the small community feel of the Faculty of Environment. It's not a large Faculty, so you're able to get to know people in other programs, and develop great relationships. As well, in regards to the Planning program, our planning decisions have a large impact on the environment. As a result, there is an added focus on the relationship between the environment and planning.

Why did you choose to study in the Faculty of Environment at Waterloo?

I chose Waterloo because of the co-op program, and the opportunities it has given me! No other school offered the same high-quality experiential learning opportunities for planning students. Not only would this help me make connections and learn on the job, but co-op also makes school more affordable. I also really liked the community on campus and the size of the University of Waterloo

Why did you choose to study in the Faculty of Environment at Waterloo?

The Faculty of Environment is well known in Ontario to be the best place for Urban Planning. It allows students to be a professional planner right out of school which is a huge bonus. The placement of the program I believe is really important it isn't in a downtown heavy populated city which can help students understand that planning is also in rural places (Which the professors do a wonderful job at giving examples of variety of towns/cities). What I didn't know coming to the program is that there are specializations that students can take and Waterloo has many options so that students can enjoy all aspects of Urban Planning. The Faculty of Environment does a wonderful job in trying to include everyone by giving students options and the ability to choose their own path while still doing their program.

Why did you choose to study in the Faculty of Environment at Waterloo?

I chose the Faculty of Environment because it was one of the only faculties that offered a program that combined the three things I'm most passionate about: cities, public transit, and fostering communities! I also chose to be an Environment student because it emphasized sustainability in principle and in practice, which was something I wanted to apply both in my future planning career and my own life. Finally, as someone who was new to Canada, I really liked that community-building and inclusiveness were integral parts of the Faculty environment, because it made it easy for me to feel like I belonged to a family away from home.
