Velocity Pitch Competition
We’re kicking off Waterloo Tech Week 2026 with the Velocity Pitch Competition. It will look a little different this time around. A presenter from each team will have two minutes and no slides. Just you and an audience full of supporters who want to help you thrive and a chance at the $5,000 top prize.
Abraham Oghobase: Notes to Self
Abraham Oghobase investigates the ways that photographic images shape memory and history. The artist’s mixed-media installation Onoriode (Who Knows Tomorrow?) references both his middle name and its translation from the Urhobo language. Exhibited in context with the large-scale print installation Notes to Self, these recent bodies of work are made in response to the tensions inherent to both the personal and historical archive.
Laura Moore: Handheld
The multidisciplinary artworks in Handheld are rooted in Laura Moore’s fascination with obsolete technology and her commitment to repurposing materials. Having established a reputation for carving 1:1 scale vintage computer monitors and boom boxes out of stone, over the last few years her practice has expanded to include the making of quilts and mosaics.
Knit/Crochet Stress Buster Drop-ins
If you love yarn crafts (knitting, crochet, etc.), and would like to take a yarn break, have fun, connect with other yarners, enjoy a cup of tea, and indulge in your craft with like minded members of our community, then our Yarn Drop-in Stress Buster Sessions are for you!

The Black, Indigenous and Racialized Students' Writing Café is a social writing group. Unlike traditional peer feedback-based writing groups, we don’t read each other’s finished writing: instead, we write together to create a community of writers who can cheer each other on during what is often an isolating, difficult journey!
