Knowledge Integration Seminar: Running a Tax Department for a big Canadian Bank
Running a Tax Department for a big Canadian Bank: an interesting and multidisciplinary challenge
Speaker: Peter van Dijk, Senior Vice President, Tax, TD Bank Group
In my presentation, I will try to give you a flavor for what it is like to work in a tax department of a big Canadian bank with large operations outside Canada. I will spend time talking about topics like:
- What does the tax department do - hint: it is a lot more than filing tax returns...
- What kind of people work in the tax department - education, experience, etc.
- Who does the tax department interact with inside and outside the bank - business units, corporate departments, regulators, tax authorities, governments, OECD, etc.
- What are the big tax issues that I worry about - think tax risk, reputational risk, changing tax laws and politicians who don't understand the impact of tax on business activity, jobs and the economy
