  • All students are welcome to drop-in at any session to speak in a friendly, informal and confidential space
  • The group will be facilitated by a student volunteer and a Campus Wellness clinician
  • Sessions will run every 2nd Tuesday and 4th Wednesday of the month
  • Sign up is available on LEADS or drop-in to any session

This training teaches students, staff, and faculty how to recognize and support someone who may be having thoughts of suicide. QPR is an education and awareness program that provides direction as to how to Question a person with thoughts of suicide, how to Persuade them to get help, and how to Refer the person to appropriate professional resources.

This training consists of a facilitated discussion of the online More Feet on the Ground mental health education program. This program uses those online materials, as well as vignettes to teach students, staff, and faculty how to Recognize, Respond, and Refer individuals experiencing mental health concerns on campus.

Earlier this year, Water Institute member Keith Hipel, University Professors in Waterloo's Department of Systems Design Engineering, was awarded the Miroslaw Romanowski Medal for significant contributions to the resolution of scientific aspects of environmental problems or for important improvements to the quality of an ecosystem in all aspects - terrestrial, atmospheric and aqueous - brought about by scientific means.

On November 29, Professor Hipel will deliver the Miroslaw Romanowski Lecture at the University of Waterloo: "Negotiations over Groundwater Contamination."

This training teaches students, staff, and faculty to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first-aid resources. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die, but are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers learn to recognize these invitations and take action.
