How do you promote a deep approach to learning in your courses?
The session leaders will facilitate a discussion on ways to encourage students to take a deep approach to learning and will present some activities from our Instructor Resources Repository in LEARN and demonstrate how they can be used, reused and modified to meet the learning outcomes of your course. You will have the opportunity to share ideas for developing a blended learning activity for your course.
The notion of the “flipped classroom” has been surfacing in teaching and learning listservs and publications for the last couple of years. The term refers to courses where the traditional components (lectures and homework) are reversed; that is, course content is delivered outside of class time (for example, via lectures delivered as podcasts or screencasts) leaving class time free for active learning activities (such as discussions, debates, demonstrations, and so on).
