Conchies Speak: Ontario Mennonites in Alternatives Service 1941-1946

During the Second World War, 2,600 Ontario Mennonite men served in conscientious objector work camps. Through archival records, this exhibit recovers their voices and stories. Free. Guided tours and additional programming available for groups if arranged in advance.

Responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, the summit is an intercultural calling-in of elders, researchers, artists, cultural practitioners, performers, students, residential school survivors, among others. Together we move forward to share knowledge and creative solutions that will revitalize relationships between Indigenous peoples and all Canadians in meaningful and lasting ways.

In keeping with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, this summit is designed to be an intercultural calling-in of social justice advocates, community elders, researchers, artists, cultural, and multidisciplinary practitioners and performers, academics, students, and residential school representatives - among others -- in order to generate creative solutions to immediate societal challenges and to develop opportunities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists and researchers across disciplines to meet and collaborate.

Sleeper_Vertical is a generative animation work by Ian Birse and Laura Kavanaugh, created for the unique aspect ratio of the Christie Digital MicroTiles Wall at the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus. The animation will be on display at the Stratford Campus from 12:00 - 5:00 PM on weekends from September 10 - November 27.
