The Video Game Renaissance
The Video Game Industry is in the midst of a massive paradigm change. The amount of restructuring, new platforms and distribution methods is unprecedented. This talk will examine how video game industry arrived in its current state of flux. More importantly, all of this massive change will lead to massive opportunity. The video game industry potential is greater then ever before and a renaissance is beginning. The Arts, Psychology, Business and Computer Science are a few of many the keys to kingdom in the new landscape opening up in video games. Cross-disciplinary approaches to this interactive art will not only allow for participation in this renaissance, but also help lead the way for change and revitalization.
Denis Dyack (B. Phed, H. BSc, M. Sc) is the Chief Creative Officer of Precursor Games and a video game industry veteran of more than 20 years. In 1992 he founded Silicon Knights creating titles such as Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, and Too Human. Denis is a firm believer in ties between academia and industry, and has been on several advisory boards such as MIT, Brock University, McMaster University, and others to work in this regard. He has spoken on a variety of topics from Engagement Theory, One Console Future, to Cloud Computing at conferences such as GDC, GDC Europe, Games Con, and DIG. In 2011, Denis was inducted into the Canadian Game Developers Hall of Fame. Denis is moved by the positive potential of video games and is loves creating games that are original and engaging.
