FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international program for high school students which was started in 1992 with 28 teams in a New Hampshire high-school gym and has grown in the last 20 years to include over 2,000 teams in landmark stadiums all competing and networking to make the FIRST Community even stronger.
“The varsity sport for the mind,” FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get.
Students have the opportunity to learn and use sophisticated software and hardware and work with and learn from professional engineers, as well as mentors from all walks of life.
FIRST Robotics Competition regionals and tournaments are free and open to the public.
