Greg Van Alstyne is a designer, teacher, researcher and futurist with more than twenty-five years practice in communications and experience design, visualization, branding, and strategic design management.
As Director of Research for Strategic Innovation Lab (sLab) at OCAD University, he is responsible for developing, managing and implementing the lab's program.
Greg's research interests include the relationship between design and emergence (top-down vs bottom-up) in innovation ecosystems; the futures of digital media, reading, and publishing, design fiction, tangible & experiential futures; creative & critical data visualization. Among his current research initiatives, Greg is co-investigator for the SSHRC-funded project Digital Governance: Transforming Government Practice in the Digital Era; and Program Director for DesignJam.ca. Prior to his OCAD appointments Greg was inaugural Director of the Institute without Boundaries (IwB), Creative Director at IconNicholson, NY, and founder of the Department of New Media at The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
