The Let’s Talk Science Challenge is a competition that is run across Canada by various Let’s Talk Science sites, spearheaded by the Let’s Talk Science National Office.
This year the University of Waterloo will be welcoming 60 teams of grade 6-8 students registered to compete in a fun day of science challenges.
In the morning they take part in a design challenge where they are given a box of supplies and must design a mystery creation within a time frame. They don’t find out what they have to build until the challenge starts and they open their boxes of supplies.
Over lunch, students are invited to participate in a number of fun, hands on science activities.
After lunch we move on to the quiz show portion of the day, where the students compete in a game show-esque setting using knowledge they've learned from the Let's Talk Science Challenge Manual.
Prizes are awarded to students with the most points but also with the most spirit.
Nearly 250 local students from the Kitchener-Waterloo region are expected to participate. The design challenge portion of the day takes place in MC (1056,2034,2035,2038,2054,4042) while the lunch activities and game show are all in M3’s atrium and M3 1006.
