About the novel

Quantum Night combines psychology and physics to explore the thin line between good and evil that every human being is capable of crossing. This science-fiction thriller follows Jim Marchuk, who has developed a technique that can uncover psychopaths, whose life starts to swirl out of control as he is suspected to be a psychopath himself due to missing parts of his memories 20 years prior. With violence and hate on the rise across the globe, Jim is reunited with his forgotten girlfriend Kayla Huron, as they race against time to see if they can do the impossible – change human nature—before the entire world descends into darkness.

Quantum Night is Sawyer’s 23rd novel and takes place mostly at Canada’s national synchrotron in Saskatoon, the Canadian Light Source. The writer-in-residence position was created specifically for him and it’s the first of its kind at a Canadian science facility. This allowed him to extensively research the nature of human consciousness for his book.
