Free Admission, Open to the Public
Dr. Lucena's presentation will give a summary of the research that is being conducted at the Energy Planning Program of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The idea is to show the main research interests of the Energy Group and the modeling tools that are used by them.
After a brief presentation of the country's energy system, two major concluded research projects will be presented:
(1) a climate change impact assessment conducted for Brazil, in which the research team projected the impacts that changing climate would have on the Brazilian energy system. Modeling of least-cost adaptation alternatives will also be presented;
(2) an estimate of the country's mitigation potential and the marginal abatement cost for the energy sector. Finally, Dr. Lucena will discuss his work at JGCRI and the perspectives for future research.
