WISE is pleased to announce a hybrid WISE Public Lecture with Dr. Osvaldo Arenas.

Please join us in person or on Zoom for a discussion about the global context of sustainable aviation, the NRC Aerospace Low Emission Aviation Program, and the technological challenges, research, and projects on electrified propulsion at NRC and Canada.

Dr. Osvaldo Arenas

Dr. Osvaldo Arenas is a Senior Research Officer and Facility Team Leader at the Propulsion and Power Laboratory (PROPEL), in the Aerospace Research Centre of the of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). He currently serves as the Technology Leader of the Electrical Systems for the Low Emissions Aviation Program (LEAP). He is the designer of the Hybrid-Electric Research Outfit (HERO) facility, where he conducts research in electrification of aircraft propulsion. Dr. Arenas has been awarded twice the NRC’s Outstanding Achievement Award. He is a voting member of the SAE International Electrified Propulsion Committee E-40. Prior to joining the NRC in 2017, Dr. Arenas held multiple leadership roles in research projects in the fields of microfabrication, characterization of Gallium Nitride (GaN) transistors, advanced thermal management, packaging of high-power-density devices, concentrated photovoltaic systems and microwave circuits at Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation 3IT of the Université de Sherbrooke (Quebec). There, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship and graduate studies in electrical engineering. In the early stages of his career, Osvaldo worked as an instrumentation engineer in the Petrochemical Industry.
