I hold a University Research Chair and am cross-appointed in German and English. Prior to coming to UW in 2008, I taught at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, for 25 years. I have published books on German Romanticism and the history of homeopathy, dogs in art and literature, and queer German cinema. One of my favourite teaching assignments is every fall a large first-year lecture class on global cinema. I also regularly teach a GLBTIQ2 undergraduate cinema class.
I look forward to serving as the Faculty of Arts representative on the FAUW Board and am particularly committed to issues of equity and inclusiveness and to challenges facing academic freedom today. I am also concerned about the impact of cuts to the Faculty of Arts, such as increased class sizes or the conditions of employment for lecturers.
In my spare time, I walk with my whippets, garden, and alternate evenings between the Princess Cinema and the KW Chamber Music Society.
