Laura Mae Lindo, Member of Provincial Parliament for Kitchener Centre, is a respected activist and educator who holds both a Masters and PhD in Education. Her commitment to building inclusive communities both within and outside of educational environments is grounded in her knowledge of how to put anti-oppression theories into practice. Laura Mae is a knowledgeable advocate for the rights of women and girls, a respected ally to marginalized community members, and, most importantly, a courageous public speaker on issues often left unaddressed in the mainstream. Laura Mae is the Official Opposition Critic for Anti-Racism, and Colleges and Universities. The Leader of the Official Opposition appointed her as Chair of Official Opposition’s first Black Caucus, to collaborate with Black communities and allies to address systemic anti-Black racism in Ontario.

On May 19, Laura Mae Lindo will talk with FAUW members about what faculty can do to combat anti-Black racism in the university.

This event will be hosted by Kathy Hogarth, the Special Advisor, Anti-Racism & Inclusivity to the Office of the Vice President, Research & International and an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work. She is also the co-founder of the Black Faculty Collective and the Anti-Racism Advisor to FAUW. Much of her work is focused on race, racism and related social policy. She is an avid advocate for change related to race equity and anti-racism. Dr. Hogarth is the author of the book “A Space for Race: Decoding Racism, Multiculturalism and Post-Colonialism in the Quest for Belonging in Canada and Beyond."
