In November 2019 you'll be electing the next FAUW president, for a two-year term starting July 1, 2020.
What does the president do?
The president is a visible leader who represents the interests of faculty and works to improve their conditions of employment.
In addition to representing FAUW at the University and in the broader community, the president is charged with the general management and supervision of the association’s affairs and operations. This includes chairing the meetings of the Board of Directors and co-chairing the Faculty Relations Committee.
The president is a champion for academic freedom, collegial governance, and equity, and works with the University administration to promote FAUW’s objectives. They also serve on the University Senate and Senate Executive and participate in advocacy at the provincial and national levels through the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) and the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT).
The president is supported by highly capable staff and board members who can facilitate effective leadership and advise on issues of University governance. The role is challenging, but also immensely personally rewarding.
How do I run? Can I nominate someone else?
How to run for FAUW president
Fill out a nomination form (PDF).
Get it signed by three voting members of FAUW (they don't all need to be from your Faculty).
Submit it to FAUW by November 13 at 4:30 p.m. Please also send a 250-word candidate statement, a record of your FAUW service (if any), and a headshot by email to Laura McDonald. You can submit it by email, campus mail, or in person.
Nominating someone else
There is no way to nominate someone without their participation, but if you know someone you think would make a good president, you can encourage them to run (share this page with them!) and then sign their nomination form.
When do we vote?
Voting will open November 20. Eligible voters will receive a link to the online poll that morning. The poll closes at 1:00 pm on December 3.
The results will be announced at the Fall General Meeting on December 5
Who can run? Who can vote?
