It's Fair Employment Week

Monday, October 23, 2017

This week, the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) is running their annual Fair Employment Week campaign to draw attention to the reality of precarious employment at universities and colleges in Canada.

If you're interested in learning more about contract faculty, we encourage you to check out the CAUT campaign, and to read our past blog post summarizing a study from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) on who exactly contract faculty are at Ontario universities. You might find some of it surprising, like the fact that roughly 45% of sessional faculty earn less than $19,930 a year, and over 15% of the  survey sample had been working for more than 15 years as a sessional instructor.

Faculty at Laurier have also released a 40-minute documentary, Contract Faculty: Injustice in the University, which is now available for free viewing on YouTube.
