The Faculty Association’s Status of Women & Equity Committee (SWEC) is looking for new members. The committee is strong and active, but knows that its continuing vitality depends on the new ideas and enthusiasm that come with new members.
About the committee
SWEC is concerned with matters related to the status of women as well as broader equity issues such as those arising from gender, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, class or gender identity. The committee engages in education and advocacy activities to promote equity on campus, maintains a watching brief on equity issues, and makes recommendations to the FAUW Board of Directors about what policy changes to pursue to promote equity on campus.
Joining the committee
Serving on SWEC entails:
- Attending SWEC meetings, September through June, normally held once a month on Fridays, 9:30–11:30am.
- Contributing to subcommittees, and to UW, FAUW and external committees on which SWEC is represented.
- Providing feedback on issues and initiatives as they arise in meetings and via email.
Members of SWEC are usually appointed for a renewable 2-year term.
SWEC values the benefits and strengths of diversity, and we are specifically interested in individuals who identify as or advocate for underrepresented groups (including, but not limited to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age or gender identity).
Anyone interested in joining the committee is encouraged to complete this application form by June 2, 2017.
