Subject: FORE Decommissioning

What is happening?

FORE (the Finance Online Reporting Environment) was the end user reporting tool associated with the University’s legacy Oracle financial system.  The University has been live with Unit4, the new financial system, as of May 1, 2017.  All reporting for the current fiscal year (with balances from April 2017 for comparison) is available from within Unit4 and the time has now come to decommission both FORE and Oracle E-Business Suite.

FORE is being deprecated as the underlying hardware has reached end of life, along with vendor support of the software. Continued operation of the existing system presents security risks due to obsolete software versions, which have no feasible upgrade path.

Effective June 30, 2018, end user access to the reporting tool will be removed as Finance and IST prepare to decommission the hardware and software related to both the FORE and Oracle applications.

What does this mean to me?

After June 30, 2018, users will no longer have access to FORE.  The University will be archiving the source financial data in accordance with legislative data retention requirements.  This data will remain accessible for audit and legislative purposes.

Finance and IST are working on a plan for making historical data accessible to certain user groups.  The access security in the new tool will be modelled after the Unit4 access down to the org unit level only.  Any requests for historical data beyond what is delivered within the new tool will be evaluated by IST and Finance.

Further updates will be shared as information becomes available.
