Artist talk by Laura Marotta

Laura Marotta's work is featured in the exhibition New Balance, on view in UWAG (University of Waterloo Art Gallery) from November 7–December 21, 2019.

Laura Marotta is an MFA graduate from the University of Guelph (2011) with an active exhibition history that is both in the gallery and site-specific. She has been in curated exhibitions at the McMaster Museum of Art, the Art Gallery of Mississauga, G Gallery, Toronto, The Cotton Factory, Hamilton and was commissioned by the SUPERCRAWL committee to produce a public sculpture for the 2014 event. Laura is the recipient of several awards, notably the Established Artist Award from the City of Hamilton (2015) and the Emerging Artist Grant from the Ontario Arts Council (2012/2014/2016). She has been featured as one of Hamilton’s art makers and shakers, in Hamilton Magazine’s spotlight article on the arts and her work has been reviewed in Border Crossings. Most notably, Laura was awarded the West Harbour GO Station Public Art Competition, commissioned by Metrolinx and the City of Hamilton. Bead Maze and was unveiled this June 2016.
