Artist talk by Paul Couillard

Paul Couillard has been working as a queer performance artist, curator, and performance art scholar for over 30 years. He has created more than 300 solo and collaborative performance works in 26 countries, often working with his partner Ed Johnson. Their Duorama series explores notions of relationship from an askance perspective. Paul's solo practice focuses on duration and the effects of time, site-responsiveness, building community, and addressing trauma through explorations of our bodies as shared vessels of sensation, experience, knowledge and spirit. He is a cofounder of FADO Performance Art Centre and the 7a*11d International Festival of Performance Art, both based in Toronto, and the editor of the book series Canadian Performance Art Legends. He has been a lecturer at McMaster University and the University of Toronto Scarborough, and holds a doctorate from the York/Ryerson Joint Graduate Program in Communication and Culture.
