Chris Williams received an Oscar nomination for ‘The Sea Beast’

The latest animated film by Fine Arts Alum Chris Williams (BA '90) has been nominated for an Academy award in the Best Animated Feature category. The Netflix feature “The Sea Beast” is the story of legendary sea monster hunter whose life is turned upside down when a young girl stows away on his ship and befriends the most dangerous beast of them all.

The University of Waterloo’s Department of Fine Arts in association with McGill-University Press invites you to the online book launch of Professor Bojana Videkanic Nonaligned Modernism: Socialist Postcolonial Aesthetic in Yugoslavia, 1945-1985 (McGill-Queens University Press, 2020).

Fine Arts event cancellations

Due to  concerns surrounding COVID-19, and following the directives given by the University of Waterloo, the Department of Fine Arts has cancelled all events that are not vital to our academic mission for the duration of the Winter 2020 term.

The cancellations include:

  • Fine Arts Awards Day 
  • 2020 Fine Arts 4th Year Undergraduate Exhibition
  • Upcoming Life Drawing Sessions

We take the well-being of our students, staff and faculty seriously and will do our part to help stabilize the situation in our community.
