January admission 2019

The Mathematics program (co-op and regular) accepts applications if you wish to start your studies in January.

January 2019 will be the last intake of students at that time of year. Admissions beyond January 2019 will be for the fall term only. 

Admission requirements

Ontario high school students (if you applied using the 101 application)

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Minimum of 6 Grade 12 university (U) preparation or university/college (M) preparation courses, which must include all required courses (Calculus & Vectors (MCV4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), English (ENG4U).
  • The best 6 Grade 12 courses, with an overall average in the high 80’s, including required courses.
  • Repeated courses may be taken into consideration depending on the program.
  • If your first language is not English, see Waterloo's English language requirements.
  • In order to be considered for admission for January, you must
    • Have completed your Ontario Secondary School requirements no later than December 1, 2018;
    • Provide your final transcripts no later than December 1, 2018.

All other applicants (if you applied using the 105 application)

  • Please see applying to Waterloo for admission requirements.
  • Repeated courses may be taken into consideration depending on the program.
  • If your first language is not English, see Waterloo's English language requirements.
  • Students transferring from college, CEGEP, or university are not eligible for admission in January because your official final first-term grades will not be available before our documentation deadline of December 1.

Admission decisions are based on a review of your academic records to date, including your high school grades and post-secondary grades if applicable.

Special consideration will be given to your grades in courses required for admission.

How to apply

Applications to Waterloo are handled by the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC). Once we receive your information from OUAC, we'll email you with your next steps.

  • For students not currently studying in an Ontario high school, the application will be available starting mid-September 2018.
  • For current Ontario high school students, the application will be available starting in early October 2018.

Important dates

  • Application deadline: October 26, 2018
  • Deadline to submit your documents to Waterloo: December 1, 2018
  • Classes begin: January 7, 2019

Note: Please ensure that the email address you specify on your application is accurate. We'll be sending you important information by email.

Once you have received your Waterloo ID#, you'll be able to upload your unofficial school transcripts using Quest, our online student information system. Due to the very tight timelines for winter admissions, you're encouraged to upload your documents as soon as possible.

When possible, please include your full name, program(s) and term applied to, Waterloo ID number, and OUAC reference number in your correspondence.

Offers of admission

Most offers of admission will be made no later than December 7, 2018 for the winter 2019 term.

You'll be notified of your admission decision via email. Your official offer can be found on your student centre in Quest.

You'll have 2 weeks from date of your offer to accept your Offer of Admission. Instructions will be included in your offer email.
