Eventbrite - GI Jam - Spring 2015

DIY or Die Trying (with GI Jam) is a weekend-long event hosted by The Games Institute. Each of our events are designed to appeal to a wide variety of playful people.

Whether you have an idea for a game design in the works, or if game design has never crossed your mind, there is room for everyone! All levels of expertise and preparation are welcome.

  • DIY or Die Trying 2015 posterLEARN: hear talks from game experts on the big ideas involved in games. Start thinking outside the box, games involve much more than computer coding!
  • MAKE: you can build your own games from scratch along with helpful advice and guidance from our GI mentors. You can create your own game mechanic, gameful art, game characters and narrative, or try your hand at coding for your very own game prototype.
  • PLAY: you can explore new kinds of games, try out some of the brand new games that were made at the DIY event itself, and give/receive feedback with local game experts and fellow students.

We will have two rooms in the Mathematics and Computing building (MC) dedicated to this event. The main guided activities will be held in MC 1085 throughout the weekend, but MC 2054 will remain open for those who come to the event with a pre-made game plan and are excited to get started!
