Make a Game or DIY Trying
On Friday, April 26, 2013 the Kitchener City Hall Rotunda hosted the first Games Institute game jam event: a game design workshop and tournament called “Make a Game or DIY Trying". With no programming experience necessary, attendees were treated to a full day specifically devoted to game design and entering the video game industry. The morning featured game design workshops and panels led by video game industry professionals including Electronic Arts’ Ian Crawford, Will Pwn 4 Food’s Ivan Lukianchuk, InfiniDy’s Rashid Khan, Industry Corporation’s Andrew Matlock and Natalie Herzog, and the Game Institute’s own Neil Randall.
Participants spent the afternoon in groups, working on the perfect game design proposal based on the surprise suggestion of “Everything is on Fire.” At the end of the day, the morning panelists became judges and the top three proposals received prizes. First place went to the game Pyromania¸while second went to Hero’s Divergence and third to Origin.
