Pre-Jam Prep Night Public Event
Pre-Jam Prep Night is your opportunity to come chat with fellow Jam participants, brainstorm new game ideas, see it your interests and skills align, and form teams in advance of the Main Event the following week.
For those participants that want to focus on making a complete game, it’s important to arrive with a plan and prepared to get to work. Pre-Jam Prep Night is a mini-event one week in advance of the main GI Jam weekend to allow participants an opportunity to meet up with other GI Jam-ers and discuss possible projects and teams. It’s challenging enough just making a game in 48 hours, so the Pre-Jam Prep Night is your opportunity to start deciding who you want to work with, what sorts of game ideas you want to work on, mechanics you want to explore, technology to employ, division of labour and so on.

Pre-Jam Prep Night will be happening during the weekly Proto/Play Night held every Thursday from 6pm - 9pm. Proto/Play Night is your opportunity to hang out with local game developers in a more casual atmosphere. Show off your latest projects, give and receive valuable play-testing feedback from like-minded peers, learn new tools and techniques, discuss the state of the industry, and networking with potential collaborators. Proto/Play Night takes place within the University of Waterloo Games Institute's offices at 175 Columbia Street West. Open to the public, not just UW students.
