Title: How sandbox games can be leveraged for serious purposes through their support for freedom of expression and creativity.
Abstract: Serious games are games with a purpose other than entertainment. They may help players complete household chores or tap into human intelligence and get the players to solve scientific problems. Sandbox games are those that allow for self-determined play by providing few goals, the ability to create, and the ability to go “off-the-rails”. This talk will discuss how sandbox games can be leveraged for serious purposes through their support for freedom of expression and creativity.
