The Games Institute presents the next of a series of "Brown Bag Seminars" on April 8th, 2015. The GI is located in EC-1, and these events are open to all members of the University of Waterloo.
Presenter: Dr. Mirza-Babaei, User Research Director at Execution Labs (Montreal) and an Assistant Professor at UOIT
Title: Games User Research for Independent Developers
Abstract: Formal playtesting sessions are becoming more integrated into game development cycles. However, conducting these sessions is not always feasible or affordable as they often require specialised equipment and expertise. In this talk, I provide guidelines for how small development teams with low budgets can benefit from playtesting their games. Using recent, real-world examples, I discuss the approaches, methods and equipment used to build an effective playtesting setup to help game developers optimize the player experience for their titles.
