Title: Improving vision in patients with amblyopia ('lazy eye’) using modified videogames
Abstract: Amblyopia (“lazy eye”) is a disorder of vision affecting one eye that is caused by abnormal development of the brain areas responsible for sight. Adults with amblyopia are currently left untreated because the adult brain is thought to lack sufficient plasticity, or capacity for change, to relearn use of an amblyopic eye. I will describe the development of a modified video game approach to the treatment of amblyopia that is currently the subject of two randomized clinical trials and has the potential to change the treatment of amblyopia internationally.
