Dr. Bert Chesworth is an epidemiologist with 20 years of clinical experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy in public and private health care settings. For his PhD in Epidemiology, he linked Canadian Institute for Health Information Discharge Abstract Database files with the Ontario Home Care Administration Database to determine discharge destination for rehabilitation, and waiting time for home care service following acute care discharge after a hip fracture.
Following this at the Ontario Joint Replacement Registry (OJRR), he helped develop the registry database and electronic data collection protocol, playing a key role in file construction, data analysis and interpretation and writing of all OJRR reports. He worked with the OJRR Research Subcommittee to draft guidelines for wait time thresholds for total hip and knee joint replacement surgery for the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. Bert has been working as an Assistant Professor in The School of Physical Therapy since 2006, with teaching responsibilities in the Master of Clinical Science on-line graduate program, the graduate program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, and the Bachelor of Health Sciences undergraduate program. Dr. Chesworth's research involves the evaluation of total hip and knee joint replacement outcomes and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. In his spare time, Bert enjoys skiing, woodworking and playing guitar.
