Armin Mitter, a well known East German historian, will give a talk on the author Stefan Heym, with whom he collaborated.
Stefan Heym was an internationally known German writer who wrote in German and English, an East German dissident, a member of the US forces in Europe (psychological warfare division) during World War II, an American bestseller author with his first English-language novel in 1942, a Jewish émigré in the 1930s . . . and never a member of any political party.
Armin Mitter and Stefan Wolle published the first book on the activities of the Stasi in 1990. Mitter worked at the Academy of Sciences in East Germany, lectured at a number of universities, and publishes on German and east-central European history.
Armin Mitter's talk will be held in German.
