LOCATION:HH - J.G. Hagey Hall of the Humanities 200 University Avenue West

SUMMARY:Overcoming the myth of the native speaker
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:The monolingual disposition (Gogolin\, 1994) of our societies a
nd\nschool systems is a big obstacle on the way to innovation in language\
neducation. In particular\, it constitutes a filter that prevents\nappreci
ation of linguistic and cultural diversity and fails to\nacknowledge learn
ers’ resources and funds of knowledge. However\, a\nmovement away from a
linear vision of language education into a more\ndynamic and flexible one
capable of dealing with multilingual classes\nand plurilingual individual
 s is in place.
