Thorsten Huth, University of Tennessee Knoxville, Dept. of Foreign Languages and Literatures, specializes in language learning and teacher education. He will give two workshops to graduate students and faculty members in two parts.
- Part 1: 10am-12noon in EV3 3408 - This 2-hour workshop allows participants to experience first hand, and analyze, best practices in teaching second language pragmatics. Part 1 immerses participants in a full teaching unit on a specific feature of German pragmatics (no prior knowledge of German necessary).
- Part 2: 1:30 -3:30 pm in ML 117 - This 2-hour workshop focuses on materials development, including a) selecting learning targets, b) locating useful sources, c) sequencing teaching materials, and d) deciding on specific task formats. Participants create new and revise already existing teaching materials, thus gaining hands-on practice for effectively incorporating second language pragmatics into the language classroom.
