Where and what did you study before you came to Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Waterloo?

I completed my undergrad at ELTE University in Budapest where I studied English (major) and Korean (minor).

What are your interests in German Studies?

I enjoy learning about German literature and linguistics, and recently I have been particularly interested in multilingualism research.

Why did you choose the University of Waterloo?

I chose UWaterloo because it was a partner institution of the University of Mannheim. The IcGS program requires students to study at UWaterloo for a year and I was very excited to be given this opportunity.

Do you already know what you want to write your thesis on?

My thesis will explore the status and importance of German as a heritage language in Canada. I will be conducting interviews with German-Canadian families whose home language is German.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to become a teacher and to some extent I still do. However, I did not want to do a traditional teacher training program because I wanted my future job options to be more flexible. I do not think I will be working as a teacher forever, but I do see myself teaching for a few years, preferably abroad.

What is a fun fact about you?

I love baking and my secret dream is to open a café in 20 or 30 years.
