Spend a Month, a Term or a Year in Germany
Get international experience, learn a new language, make new friends, travel Europe -- study abroad!
The Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies invites you to immerse yourself in German language, culture and experience by offering several distinct study abroad programs for every need. Plus: funding for study abroad is available!
Short term study
- Spend 5 weeks in Bamberg, a charming medieval town in upper Bavaria. You can gain up to 3 course second-year credits through our Waterloo Summer School program. You will be taught by a Waterloo German instructor and take Waterloo courses in Germany. A varied cultural program is provided through Bamberg University. The program is perfect for students who have completed GER 101 & 102, and financial support is available.
- Start or turbo-charge your German studies by attending the Canadian Summer School in Germany. Join German students from other Canadian universities in this unique 6 week program for all levels where you will live with a German family, earn Canadian university credits and discover Germany through trips and excursions. Financial support for this program is available.
Long term study
Spend a term or a year in the lively city of Mannheim, located in central Germany, studying at the University of Mannheim; or spend an extended period of time in at the University of Bamberg. These exchanges are open to all students in the Faculty of Arts, whether you have previous knowledge of German or not. Both universities offer a wide variety of courses in English, as well as German.
