The GSA Council oversees the academic, social, and political representation of Waterloo graduate students with one representative from each academic department. Council's efforts during the Fall 2018 term were focused on a number of initiatives ranging from formulation of Council policies and procedures to developing political positions and engaging constituents. Council also provided feedback to the GSA on various topics including the Fall Break Project, Graduate House fees, and student issues. Graduate students can attend open sessions of council meetings to learn more about Council's activities and initiatives.

Council's activities during the Fall term are outlined below.

September 2018

  • Council heard concerns regarding UPass and the change to tap cards.
  • Council heard an update on the Athletics plan for enhanced facilities, including the Field House and SLC/PAC expansion.
  • Council was updated and consulted on the Fall Break Project.  GSA recommended moving to a full week break in the Fall following Thanksgiving

October 2018:

  • Council received a presentation from the President regarding her Work Plan.
  • Council had a discussion regarding Thrive Week and Mental Wellness.  Council will continue discussing Student Advocacy and Mental Wellness during the Winter term.
  • Council adopted a Training Policy for its members.

November 2018:

  • Council formalized its procedures for holding e-votes.
  • Council heard a proposal to make the Graduate House fee non-refundable.  Following feedback from Council, it was decided the proposal would not go forward.

December 2018:

  • Council adopted Political Positions regarding graduate student funding payments, TA expectations, and Sessional Instructors.

We, the Graduate Student Association - University of Waterloo, acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional territory of ‎ the Attawandaron (Neutral), Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. The University of Waterloo is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes ten kilometers on each side of the Grand River.
