Norman Kearney

NormanPortrait of Norman Kearney. is a second year PhD student in the School of Environment, Resources, and Sustainability. In 2016-2017, Norman was the Student Affairs Officer, the Chair of the Council, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Graduate Student Association. In these roles, Norman introduced several changes, including: a data- and member-driven process for developing advocacy positions; a more inclusive and advocacy-based process for developing the annual budget; increased financial and political accountability of the GSA and its officials; a more efficient staff structure that will increase outreach, advocacy, and service output; and, a fund to support social and academic initiatives by graduate students.

Norman is diplomatic yet unafraid to advocate for improvements in the financial, academic, and social conditions of graduate students. As a director, he intends to focus on advocacy, seeing through and building on the changes that he introduced this year, and improving the Graduate House.
